The Agafay Desert is a rocky desert about 30–40 km (40 minutes by car) south-west of Marrakech, between the city and the High Atlas Mountains, near Lalla Takerkoust lake.
Agafay is a stone desert of hills and plateaus, not a sand-dune desert. For big dunes you need to travel to Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) or Zagora — see our multi-day desert tours.
