The Agafay Desert is only around 40 minutes from Marrakech, so its climate is close to the city's: sunny most of the year, with very hot summers and cool winter nights. But the desert feels more extreme, because there is no shade, the wind is stronger and temperatures drop fast after sunset. Understanding the Agafay Desert weather by month helps you pick the right activity, the right time of day and the right clothes.

Spring (March to May): the sweet spot
Spring is the most comfortable time for almost everything. Days are warm without being harsh, evenings are cool and the High Atlas usually still has snow on its peaks, which makes the classic Agafay photo. It is ideal for longer rides, such as a two-hour Agafay quad biking session, and for a full Agafay day trip with camel and quad.
Summer (June to September): go early or late
Summer is hot and dry. Midday in July and August is not the moment for a quad ride. Instead:
- Book a sunrise or late-afternoon slot for quad, buggy or camel activities.
- Spend the hottest hours by a pool with an Agafay pool day pass and lunch.
- Drink more water than you think you need and wear long, light clothing.
- Enjoy warm evenings: summer is a lovely time for a dinner show without heavy layers.

Autumn (October to November): warm days, golden light
Autumn rivals spring. October still feels like summer in the afternoon, but the heat is gentler and the light is beautiful. By November evenings are cool, so pack a warm layer for any sunset activity or Agafay dinner show.
Winter (December to February): sunny days, cold nights
Winter in the Agafay often surprises visitors. Days are usually sunny and pleasant for activities, with very clear air and snowy mountain views. Nights, however, can drop close to 5 °C or lower. If you plan an overnight stay, choose a camp with heaters and thick blankets, as our partner camp provides from November to March. Rain is possible in winter and early spring but usually comes in short spells.
How weather affects each activity
- Quad and buggy: best from October to May; in summer, early morning or sunset only. Wind can raise dust, so goggles and a scarf help.
- Camel ride: enjoyable all year at sunset; in winter, dress warmly as soon as the sun drops.
- Dinner show: any month; winter evenings need a proper jacket.
- Overnight camp: spring and autumn are ideal; winter is magical for stars if the tent is heated.
- Pool day pass: best from May to October.
What about wind, dust and rain?
The Agafay can be windy, especially in spring, and wind lifts fine dust on the tracks. It rarely stops activities, but it is the reason we provide a scarf and recommend sunglasses. Heavy rain is uncommon; after rain, some tracks are muddy for a day or two and guides may adjust the route. If the weather makes an activity unsafe, we will suggest another time or date. Our tips on what to wear in the Agafay help you prepare for all of this.
Month-by-month highlights
- January and February: the clearest skies of the year and the best chance of snow on the High Atlas; excellent for photography and stargazing.
- March and April: after winter rain, patches of green appear on the hills; comfortable for long rides and full days.
- May and June: long days and late sunsets; a sunset camel ride followed by dinner fits perfectly.
- July and August: the most popular holiday months but the hottest; combine early activities with a pool.
- September and October: warm, golden and less crowded; a good time for the full combo with quad, camel and dinner.
- November and December: short days, early sunsets and cold evenings; perfect for cosy dinners by the fire.
